Now Dance borrows it’s name from a song by the same title, released in 1987 by Byron Davis & The Fresh Krew on the 4 Sight Records label. Like many early Miami Bass artists, Davis packed his work with samples from sources like Ohio Players’ Love Rollercoaster and Roger's unforgettable 10+ minute rendition of I Heard it Through the Grapevine. Now Dance is both an original composition and an index of sorts, enticing listeners to learn more about the genre’s roots and influences. I think of this collection of videos for Capri by Night in a similar way — a mixtape of ideas, samples, artists and presentation styles that offer a window into the wider world of dance as I’ve come to know and appreciate it. My thanks to the talented artists and organizations who accepted my invitation to participate.
