The Classic

When I moved to Providence in 2022, I was introduced to Bryan, who was in the processes of buying The Classic Cafe. The space has largely been kept as-is, but Bryan wanted some rebranding to help get the word out that it was now under new ownership. I was hired to create a brand guide, logo, staff shirt, initial social media strategies, and a website. This was fun. I ate many breakfasts.

The website ask was ‘super simple’ so I created an easy to maintain site in Squarespace and took photos of a bunch of their best-selling dishes. Like me, Bryan is also a history-and-ephemera-minded person who loves Rhode Island, so I also bought some Ocean State stuff with the idea of The Classic sort of serving as a local archive of sorts. Not sure if that project is still going on.

Above are examples of images created for The Classic’s social channels at the time. These were done entirely in Canva, which was an easy app for the cafe to keep using on their own after my initial input.

There were also mock newspaper ads for social (above).

Once The Classic was up and running with new shirts on the staff, my time with them ended. As of today (May 2024), the site is still mostly the same so it appears that it’s been pretty evergreen / serving them well. Go there for breakfast + lunch!
